Do you check your email from your phone? Have you ever considered how many people do?
For being a Techno geek, I must admit I am a bit behind the times when it comes to my cell phone which has mobile web access but not the capabilities of a smart phone.
However, despite that fact, I still check my email from it; and one of the most frustrating things I come across is seeing an email come in from my favorite list, getting excited, opening it up to find it is a jumble of HTML code and basically unreadable on my phone.
Even emails that come with the little sentence at the top…”If you have trouble viewing this email click here” are no help to me because my phone just does not handle links in emails very well at all.
So this made me think about how many others are out there in the same boat. It has me rethinking how I format my emails and maybe you should too.
Here are 3 Techno Tips to make sure you don’t leave your cell phone using friends and subscribers frustrated and annoyed:
- Stick with text emails or make sure you always create a text version email in addition to your HTML version. Most companies like Aweber.com make this easy to do.
- Keep the width of your email to no more than 60-65 characters. Remember, mobile devices have smaller display screens. The easiest way to do this is to use a text editor like TextPad or Notepad to format your emails properly.
- Brand your email subject lines. Some mobile devices do not display the from address or the name. If you always put the same branding key in your subject line your reader will be able to easily recognize your email as being from you and one that they want to read.
