When I first started my business online, I didn’t understand “Why” I needed a blog. What did it matter? I wasn’t a writer. I didn’t have anything original to say. And, I REALLY didn’t need another thing on my “To Do” list. Plus, I was already sending out emails with little or no response. Why should I add another thing to my plate, that would eat up my valuable time?

So…I just ignored it!

Instead, I had my 5 page website that never changed. I continued to send out my occasional email, recommending this or that, in the hopes someone might buy something. And, I continued to build little websites for people, for next to nothing, hoping someone would “Notice” me and my work.

Don’t get me wrong…the clients I had loved me and would send me referrals. But, my business wasn’t growing. It was just treading water.

My world changed in 2013. We relocated from Florida to North Carolina because of some health challenges I was having. I was faced with the choice of getting a job with another CPA Accounting firm or trying to make a go of my business full time.  I chose the latter.

It became obvious, very quickly, that I needed to do things differently!
But I was scared, couldn’t sell, and had a phone phobia!
(I sort of still do, to be honest.)

But the pain of staying in a job that sucked the life out of me and would never provide the resources my family needed and deserved was worse than my fears.

So, I tried a lot of things. Blogging was one of them. It was only later that I realized how many Hidden Benefits it provided for me and my business.

It was the start of a Secret Transformation of me and my business...

As I started to blog, several amazing things happened without me even realizing it.
(Or at least not until much later.)

  • My website changed. It is no longer a collection of static, unchanging pages. It became inviting to readers as well as the search engines (slowly at first, but it happened all the same.)
  • Because I was updating regularly, with content that was aligned with me and my work, I started "being" the the expert that I wanted to be.
  • My personality began to shine through and gave potential clients a taste of who I was.
  • Potential clients had more confidence in me and how I could help them, because my energy, personality and knowledge was being shared through my blog.

My business was transforming... I was transforming...

  • I was starting to become Visible!
  • I was learning to be authentically me, which allowed me to connect with my market on a deeper level.
